Earlier in the year, two colleagues and Veterans took part in The Great Tommy Sleep Out in aid of Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI), a fundraising challenge designed to support the estimated 6,000 veterans experiencing homelessness in the UK right now.
RBLI is a national veterans charity supporting the Armed Forces, people with disabilities and people who are unemployed. They support people they help with finding work and lead independent lives.
Recent global events have deeply impacted military veterans right across the nation and RBLI have seen a 45% increase in the demand for our services for homeless veterans over the past year alone. The cost of living crisis is already having an impact and young, single, male veterans, in particular, can struggle to access social housing and many find themselves living on the streets. It can be impossible to secure employment without a fixed address, plunging them into worsening financial troubles and serious mental health struggles.
Supporting the armed forces is profoundly significant for Reds10 and deeply ingrained in our DNA. This commitment extends across our projects, where the armed forces are a valued client and partner, and community initiatives. Moreover, it is woven into the very fabric of our company, with an increasing number of team members proud armed forces veterans and reservists.
It was therefore no surprise that John Ruddick, Reds10 Construction Manager, and Ryan Scholz, Reds10 After Care Lead, both of whom are armed forces veterans chose to take part in The Great Tommy Sleep Out. Between them, they raised over £3,000 but they certainly found it a humbling experience.
