Reds10, a pioneer of industrialised construction, welcomed Charlie Dewhirst, Conservative MP for Bridlington and the Wolds, alongside three representatives from local councils to its Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) manufacturing facilities in Driffield today.
Reds10’s Chairman Paul Ruddick and Commercial Director Ryan Geldard, alongside the company’s factory team, hosted Charlie Dewhirst MP at their Driffield factory, alongside East Riding of Yorkshire Council Leader Cllr Anne Handley, Driffield and Rural Cllr Michael Lee and East Wolds and Coastal Cllr Jonathan Bibb. The guests were given a tour of the factory’s production facilities before having the opportunity to meet some of the company’s apprentices and Return on Temporary Licence (ROTL) trainees to learn more about the range of career pathways being created at Reds10 to attract new recruits into the construction industry.
Established in 2006, the company is at the leading edge of innovation in construction, pioneering industrialised production and delivery to create sustainable, high-quality spaces for the public sector, with a particular focus on defence, education, health, justice, accommodation and social housing. The company has grown steadily since its inception in 2006, announcing its fourth consecutive year of growth in its latest financial results for the year ended 31 March 2024, with a revenue of £142.5m, up 70% from 2023.
Reds10 has continued to invest in its MMC manufacturing facility in East Yorkshire, acquiring its fifth factory in 2024. Its factory floor space now totals 300,000 sq foot and the facility has the capacity to produce 4,000 units a year. The company employs 269 staff at its Driffield facility, with 82% of employees living within a 30-mile radius. By investing in its own workforce, the company is able to deliver sustainable and innovative buildings in modern manufacturing facilities which are then transported and assembled on site to the most exacting standards.
Passionate about doing things that positively impact its people, investing in skills, training, research and innovation is key for the company, alongside attracting new recruits into the construction industry through a range of different career pathways. Reds10 supports new recruits into the industry in a number of different ways, in 2024 supporting 51 apprentices, T-Levels and trainees across its business operations, as well as 23 Armed Forces Veterans and Reservists.
At the Driffield factory, 16 apprentices are supported by Reds10, with a dedicated full-time mentor and Apprentice Hub created to provide on-the-job training for the company’s joinery apprentices. Additionally, in November 2023, Reds10 launched its Dual Career Pathway initiative with and Hull City Ladies FC, an initiative set up to provide opportunities for women to pursue careers in both football and construction concurrently.
Extending its career pathways further, in September 2024, Reds10 launched its ROTL Programme at the factory, in partnership with HMP Hatfield. The programme is designed to reduce reoffending by supporting prisoners preparing for release to learn new employment skills. Since then, Reds10 has successfully recruited six men, all of whom have passed their probation period. One of those has accepted a full-time contract with Reds10 and will start his employment with the company in March 2025. Interest in the programme has been higher than anticipated and, due to its success so far, Reds10 is aiming to have 10 ROTL employees at the factory by the end of May 2025 with intentions to grow this pathway at scale over the next three to five years.
"It was fantastic to meet Michael, Paul and the team at Reds10 at their factory in Driffield and see firsthand the invaluable contribution they are making to the local economy in Bridlington & The Wolds. Their commitment to providing opportunities for veterans and ex offenders to re enter the workforce is truly commendable and inspiring to see a business that not only drives economic growth but also changes lives by offering second chance and valuable skills".
Charlie Dewhirst MP for Bridlington and The Wolds
"Our reputation for delivering outstanding buildings and exceptional value for our clients has fuelled the company's continued growth and this is reflected in the expansion of our Driffield facility which has grown from one factory building in 2015 to the five facilities that we have today.
The positive evolution of the business has enabled us to really focus on creating meaningful pathways into our industry for people from diverse backgrounds. We are very passionate about the work we do and through delivering transformational pathways into construction, we are helping to address the chronic skills shortage by inspiring people from all walks of life into rewarding long-term careers".
Paul Ruddick, Chairman, Reds10
