Project Details
A collaborative bid by ADS Independent Living Solutions and Reds10 was granted funding from the government’s ‘Sustainable Innovation Fund’ by Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency.
The £134 million investment fund is part of the government’s commitment to Build Back Better through supporting the UK’s most innovative companies during the coronavirus pandemic.
The purpose of the grant was the production of a Smile Homes® prototype for intelligent, purpose designed, person-centred homes for people with complex needs, from learning to physical disabilities across the age spectrum, manufactured off-site.
Conceived by ADS and designed by Steve Batson and his team of healthcare specialists at Stephen George + Partners Architects, Smile Homes® incorporate technology that will work seamlessly across the home, creating a safe environment for people facing challenges living independently.
The homes will be constructed off-site and incorporate building and organisational performance data to optimise customer experience, building use, operation, energy consumption and maintenance.
As part of a call off contract for 30 individual dwellings, working as Principal Contractor and Principal Designer, Reds10 completed the first ever Smile Homes® at Portland College, Mansfield in 2021.
Reds10 works included eliciting client requirements, full turnkey design, manufacture, assembly, delivery, installation, fitting-out, testing and commissioning and handover of modular Smile Homes®, including all associated enabling and completion work.

Our Smile Homes® are highly intelligent and are a new way of responding to the needs and wishes of people with learning challenges, autistic people, people with mental health and behavioural challenges or physical differences who simply want their own home in a community of their choosing and the opportunity to live as independently as possible.
