A development by Wokingham Borough Council for a new activity centre to reflect public feedback has been submitted for planning and is due to start on site in June 2020.
The design by HLM Architects includes Siberian larch cladding that weathers over time to blend in with the natural surroundings.
Supporting the council’s commitment to be carbon neutral by 2030, the design also includes several eco-friendly features, such as three large windcatchers, photovoltaic panels on the roof and air source heat pumps, which will significantly reduce the centre’s overall energy demand.
Reds10 are once more challenging what is possible with off-site construction with a non-standard design including enhanced external features that tie into the building, but also allow for seamless integration with the natural landscapes the building sits in. The building has been designed with materials to reduce the embodied carbon emissions in the manufacturing of the building as much as possible.
