Arnold Academy

Project Details

Arnold Academy in Bedfordshire is focused on providing an all-round education to pupils aged 9 to 13. For the start of the 2018 school year, the School required an expansion due to a plan to take on new forms of entry.

The additional 1,000m2 of space provided by Reds10 included a new Sports Hall, changing rooms and SEN Block, which would both extend the School and fit seamlessly with existing buildings.

The SEN Block and changing rooms were constructed using offsite manufacturing, while the Sports Hall was constructed using traditional construction methods (steel portal frame), to allow for the required height and spans necessary.

The changing rooms are connected to the existing School building via a link bridge, also constructed using offsite methods.

The project had challenging ground conditions with varying site levels and included enhanced design features such as link bridge to existing school, carpark remodelling, under croft at main entrance and extensive external canopies.

Despite these potential challenges, Reds10 were able to deliver brand new School spaces which not only meet the brief but also offer seamless continuity of quality and finish.

The opening of the new spaces also coincided with the 60th Anniversary of the school, which Reds10 commemorated by installing a ‘sponsored bricks’ feature engraved with names of staff, pupils and their families outside the main entrance.
