3G pitch completed as new school in Arborfield takes shape

Key sports facilities in Arborfield are ready to go, with the all-weather sports pitch now complete as part of a new village school. Wokingham Borough Council is building the new school for the area, with construction gathering pace ahead of it opening its doors in September.

The sports facilities will be open for community use outside of school hours, so those who live locally can make the most of them. The school, which the council intends to become the new home for Farley Hill Primary School, is part of the Arborfield Garrison major development.

Modules for the new buildings were lifted into place late last year for the 420-place school and interior fit out has now started. A nursery will also be part of the premises, which has room and planning permission to expand to 630 school places if required.

“The new school in Arborfield is an example of where we are not only providing school places but the community facilities needed in the area. The completion of this all-weather sports pitch is another key milestone as we continue construction through the winter. I’m delighted to see the school, and all its associated facilities, really taking shape ahead of the opening later this year.”

Cllr UllaKarin Clark, executive member for children’s services

Our specialist team will complete seventy per cent of the building work  modularly offsite, a decision made to cut carbon emissions in the construction process. This helps the council towards its goal of making Wokingham a carbon neutral borough by 2030.

“We are always pleased when one of our projects includes a community element. The sports pitch will provide a great sports facility for the community and we are proud to have completed it alongside our major development work on the complex, in a matter of weeks. We are looking forward to seeing it being used soon.”

Paul Ruddick, Reds10 CEO

Arborfield Green’s new school’s facilities are funded through developer contributions as part of the four major new communities at Arborfield, Shinfield and North and South Wokingham, and includes an investment of £98million in new schools.
