RAF Cosford Completes
Reds10 has officially handed over a new 50-bed Single Living Accommodation (SLA) block at RAF Cosford, marking the first completed project delivered through the Defence Infrastructure Organisation’s Single Living Accommodation Alliance of off-site construction contractors.
The development, which was awarded to Reds10 at RIBA Stage 4, provides 50 modern en-suite bedrooms alongside shared kitchenettes, communal areas, equipment storage and laundry facilities, significantly enhancing the living environment for RAF personnel stationed at the Shropshire base.
The project represents a major milestone for DIO’s SLA Alliance, demonstrating how a programmatic approach to delivery can accelerate the provision of high-quality accommodation for armed forces personnel. The Reds10 team successfully installed all 68 modules on-site, completed the ‘zip-up’ process and finished the interiors in just 20 weeks.
Designed with sustainability at its core, the new accommodation incorporates air source heat pumps for heating and hot water, photovoltaic panels and a SMART building management system to maximise energy efficiency.
The project has delivered significant value for the local economy, with local suppliers used during construction creating wider regional benefits. It has also contributed to employment and skills outcomes, including four full-time equivalent local roles and 79 apprenticeship weeks.
As the first completed project through the DIO’s SLA Alliance, RAF Cosford demonstrates how modern methods of construction can help transform defence infrastructure by delivering high-quality accommodation more quickly, efficiently and sustainably.
The project at RAF Cosford is part of a six-year programme to deliver thousands of new SLA bedspaces for armed forces personnel across the defence estate.
